18 October 2021 – A surprise this morning: I received mail from the Fachbereich Architektur Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (FATUK). Because the architecture students were not allowed to travel due to the Covid crisis, Prof. Johannes Modersohn organised a virtual excursion to the Netherlands this spring. Their aim was to get to know the generation of architects ‘after Superdutch‘.

Johannes invited Oliver Thill (Kempe Thill), Jan Peter Wingender (office winhov) and me for a short Zoom presentation of our work. The students had prepared questions. The presentations and interviews have been summarised in a modest publication called Superdutch Reloaded. It is an interesting document. After studying the Either … Or Quiz for example, I am now aware that, just like my collegues, I prefer coffee over tea, all three of us will opt for form instead of function and for Hans Kollhoff instead of Rem Koolhaas.

I feel akin to these colleagues, but it is also clear where the differences lie. I am the only one who prefers brick over wood – and more instead of less.
