10 November 2021 – Congratulations, Marjolein van Eig. Today, her book The Detail was announced on the website of the publisher De Architect by the postscript that I wrote.

From lead flashes to plinths, end facades and windowframes, the book includes contains 31 discussions of the construction items that make up a building. Marjolein van Eig wrote them as columns for De Architect between 2015 and 2019. Architects sometimes tend to mystify the architectural detail. On the other hand, criticism has long ceased to focus on everyday building.

Very good, therefore, this collection of reports from practice by Marjolein and when she asked me to contribute a postscript, I was happy to do so. The book also contains an introduction by the editor-in-chief of De Architect, Merel Pit, and essays by Violette Schönberger and Mark Pimlott.
