5 July 2024 – Upon the invitation of the Berlin Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung und Wohnen, I reviewed this week – along with Birgit Rapp en Meinrad Morger, among others – the competition for a mixed use project on Breite Straße in Berlin Mitte.
The task consisted of five plots with a varied cultural, business, restaurant and affordable housing program. In addition, the integration of archaeological foundation remains was part of the design brief. For each plot, we discussed ten entries.
The competition was the result of two years of thorough preparation. Now we are presented with a proposal for a street with a balanced variety of design concepts. Warm congratulations to the winning colleagues AFF Architekten, Bruno Fioretti Marquez Architekten and Jörg Springer Architekten and to the client Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Berlin-Mitte who will take their designs in hand for implementation.
